He and Aaron gathered the people together in front of the rock. Moses said to them, “Listen, you who refuse to obey! Do we have to bring water out of this rock for you?“ Then Moses raised his arm. He hit the rock twice with his walking stick. Water poured out. And the people and their livestock drank it. Numbers 20: 10-11 NLT
God initially told Moses to speak to the rock. Moses disobeyed and he hit the rock twice. Despite Moses’ disobedience, God still provided water from a rock so that the people and the animals could drink. This is a demonstration of the faithfulness of a holy God and he performed a mighty miracle in the desert. God will provide the same miracle for you when you are in a dry place.
